why we need to disconect from the grid
The discussion on solar systems realy got me thinking that part of being prepared is being disconnected as best we can
from the power grid its a hard thing to do like quiting coffee or smoking but only because some things will need to change or you need lots of money. For me its a very real necesity right now for a couple of good reasons I need reliable power and I dont believe my local supplier PG&E is going to be able to gaurantee this in the future. This is the main pole which distributes power to my home it was marked for replacement in 2002 I called it in to service about 1 year ago they sent out a linesman who told me not to worry if the pole gave out the wires would hold it up:banghead: it is hollow in the middle due to termites and leaning heavily http://www.damoc.com/photo/pge/pgsum1.JPG http://www.damoc.com/photo/pge/pgsum2.JPG PG&E my supplier right now has I guess gone through some sort of bankruptcy they are closing a hydro plant nearby because they cant make enough money from it. http://goldismoney.info/forums/archi...php/t-666.html Is this why they cant afford to fix a pole that desperately needs it and I have to wonder at how many other situations are similar to mine just disasters waiting to happen.I read of a pole that came down and started a fire, electrocuted one woman and severly burned her husband and PGE new that the pole was a danger. here is a link to that storyhttp://barrandmudford.com/20 Is this local lack of maintainance and repair nothing to worry about for most of us or is it indicative of the state of the power grid for the whole country? here are just some of the possible causes of power disruption ageing over worked infrastructure not enough infrastructure emp attack hackers/terrorists peak oil expensive oil rapid increase in demand due to weather or perhaps a change to electric vehicals For me its not just about saving a few dollars its about having the energy when I need it and while I am connected to the grid and to non renewable energy sources I am still vulnerable and dependant. |

Have andy swing by and 'bump' it with his tractor, that way you will get it fixed before the bank holiday.

From the look of your "grass" I'd say that you need to make sure you have a good well before worrying about electricity.
